NJPI policy research intern David Fishkin, a Political Science student at Rutgers University – New Brunswick, has published an op-ed in New Jersey Education Report advocating for earlier student involvement in the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process. Drawing from his own experience as a student with Autism Spectrum Disorder, David makes the case for lowering the age at which New Jersey students are invited to participate in IEP meetings from 14 to 12, giving them more time to develop self-advocacy skills and take ownership of their education.
